I am a web developer using PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, and Javascript to create web apps which are hosted on Ubuntu server. I previously hosted on CentOS server but made the switch because Ubuntu offers sysadmins an easier experience.
I install Virtualmin on top of a brand new installation of Ubuntu. This works equally well with VPSes and dedicated servers as well as cloud servers.
I have used Ubuntu servers to create torrent seedboxes using qbittorent-nox, which has proved to be a very powerful and robust combination. If you have a lot of disk space and a 1Gbps connection, you can seed back a lot to your torrent community.
I have also compiled and run xmr-stak on Ubuntu server to mine Monero, which it does without interrupting the normal operation of the box.
I like running Ubuntu server LTS because it comes with up to date versions of PHP and MySQL. It's one of the easiest Linux distributions to use on a server.
I also switched to using nginx and find it much easier to manage than apache2.
For SSL, Virtualmin installs Let's Encrypt certificates. Sometimes, the script glitches and I fall back to using sslforfree.com to manually install a certificate.
I've been using Linux since 1995 when it wasn't taken very seriously. We've come a long way since those days.
