About

Okay... moving on. Mac OS X server, tossed out the window. Tempted to just boot the MAC on Ubuntu exclusively as a server command line only. Would be nice to at least have a web gui to administer it.

Next project is to rip out the software in a WD My Cloud and replace it with Ubuntu. It's a computer so why not right? Problem is, I am not sure how to go about it. Do I pull the hard drive and hook it up to a GUI version of Ubuntu and install it. Not sure at the moment.

Suffice it to say, I am positive it is possible, but figuring out the right way without ruining the partitions already configured in the device is the challenge. Just incase I want to re-image it back to factory default.

The My Cloud is a decent wee box, but I just hate the WD proprietary installation. Forcing you to go to /UI. Well I've bricked the box once and restored it via a DVD boot "Try Ubuntu first" on my main desktop Mac and restored the factory firmware to the rootfs partitions. So I guess there is no fear there any more.

Will post my findings if I decide to just do it.
