In Ubuntu most applications have dependencies, programs that they depend on to run correctly. This means that installing a package sometimes requires other packages to be installed, and removing packages will cause others to be removed by APT to prevent them from breaking. Use this tag when asking about managing and resolving dependencies

Applications often share code through development or runtime libraries and packages. This tag would apply (in concert with other tags) in the following example circumstances:

  • Resolving package-management conflicting or unmet dependencies
  • Packaging build and install -time specifications
  • Compile-time dependency fulfilment
  • Installing the correct runtime libraries
