So my issue is that, I have a GeForce GTX 860M and I have the driver 384.98 which is the driver supposedly made for my Nvidia card.

So when I select the driver then reboot to use it, Steam will not, at all launch and won't even respond when I try to launch it.

If I revert back to my X.org though, I can launch and play games like normally (abit at poor quality as expected.)

I installed this driver through the console and all that and have it set up in my software and updates area like normally.

I am a very beginner sort of person to this as I recently switched so I am not sure on what to do.

The error message I got was this.

Installing breakpad exception handler for appid(steam)/version(1513371133)

libGL error: No matching fbConfigs or visuals found

libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast

Has anyone found a fix for this?

This is my drivers list btw, I have more than one cause I was fiddling around with it. Drivers.

  • It might be helpful if you edited your question to include the error messages that are generated when you try to run Steam. Separately, I see in your list of drivers quite a few versions of the Nvidia driver. Is there a reason for so many? If no, then it might help to reduce those drivers to just one (helpful to limit the variables that might account for your issue). – richbl Dec 21 '17 at 4:13
  • Edited it and added in the errors. It's because i'm very new to this whole linux system and didn't really look into what driver I needed until recently. Also that sounds like a good idea, I'll look into it. – BeefcakeLlama Dec 21 '17 at 7:19
