Now of ADB/Fastboot can be downloaded separately. Unfortunately I wasn't able to run it out-of-the-box on Ubuntu 14.04 AMD64, and I get fastboot: usage :no command while trying to run it.

Running fastboot as usual goes like this:

fastboot is not installed, install it from android-tools-fastboot

Running from current directory as ./fastboot gives

fastboot: usage :no command

Adding fastboot dir to PATH via .bashrc like this

export PATH=/fastbootdir:$PATH

gives the same error as the former.

What is wrong?
