since a couple of weeks, network-manager does no longer start automatically. I did not change any related configuration, I think an update broke it.

If I manually run systemctl start NetworkManager.service, everything works.

When I check the service status with systemctl status NetworkManager.service I get:

● network.target - Network
Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/network.target; static; vendor preset: enabled)
Active: active since Mit 2017-11-08 16:16:08 CET; 10min ago
     Docs: man:systemd.special(7)
           http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/NetworkTarget

journalctl -u NetworkManager gives me No entries.

I have made sure that NetworkManager.service is enabled.

Any ideas on where to go from here?

Edit: Here's the relevant portions (I think) of the output of journalctl -xe when it doesn't work:

Try to run systemctl disable NetworkManager followed by systemctl enable NetworkManager and check if this fixes it. – Videonauth Nov 8 '17 at 15:35
  • If it fails, maybe reading into this Q&A might help. – Videonauth Nov 8 '17 at 15:37
  • Why don't you just put systemctl start NetworkManager.service into startup applications? – Dugi Nov 8 '17 at 15:41
  • @Dugi IMHO this would be an ugly hack and not a fix. Sure it can work but it does not fix the underlaying problem. – Videonauth Nov 8 '17 at 15:45
