I've been using Gnome 3 and while I like the simple panel design, I have not been able to edit it. I run a VPN client and I cannot access it because it uses a tray icon to change the settings. In Gnome 3 no icon shows up, but the VPN still connects. I've searched and most people say to press alt + win + right click to edit the panel but I've tried all kinds of key combos and nothing happens. I only have the default drop down for the volume, wifi, and power controls on the right.

  • Ubuntu version? If it's 17.10, see whether this works: askubuntu.com/questions/966987/… – pomsky Nov 5 '17 at 17:43
  • You cannot customize the panel in the same way you could in GNOME 2. – dobey Nov 5 '17 at 18:23
  • Thanks pomsky - I have not found that thread until now. I uninstalled the old indicators, added TopIcons Plus, and now I can use my VPN client! – woodpecs Nov 5 '17 at 18:31
