i know my specs are pretty bad but i switched to ubuntu because i thought it would help me for browsing as ubuntu uses less resources .This is an old laptop which i have turned into my linux machine .So the problem i have been facing is that the pages load slow and youtube lags when i try to play 720p . Hell even 480p lags a bit .Here is my attached screenshot of my specs .Since I have plenty of RAM shouldnt it be helping me for basic browsing and video watching because I intend to stream youtube and netflix on this .Could you guys help me ? I am using ubuntu 16.04 xenial xerus system

  • Did you have a look at Lubuntu (leightweight version of Ubuntu)? – Marc Vanhoomissen Sep 4 '17 at 14:03
  • Do i really need lubuntu? I researched across forums and saw everywhere people saying use lubuntu if you have less ram .I dont think ram is at fault here .Whenever I check I see huge portions of my ram unused but still my still is choppy as hell – rohit choudhary Sep 4 '17 at 14:25
  • The flavor makes no difference. The problem is your hardware has been sort of "obsoleted" for any current Ubuntu release due to a lack of proper graphics drivers. – user692175 Sep 4 '17 at 15:27
  • So does that mean i have to use an older (amd catalyst supported) version of ubuntu in order to use my system to a better experience ? Plus is ther any other linux distro that actively supports amd catalyst because i dont feel like going back to windows.? – rohit choudhary Sep 4 '17 at 16:57
  • There's no other way, no other distro/version still supported. There is a new proprietary driver but it only supports an handful of chipsets. Conclusion: Use better hardware. – user692175 Sep 4 '17 at 19:50
