This question already has an answer here:

It seams to me that gnome-tweak-tool is not running, because when I'm trying to run gnome-tweak-tool in terminal following warnings appears:

WARNING : Shell not installed or running
WARNING : Shell not running
None
INFO : GSettings missing key org.gnome.nautilus.desktop (key computer-icon-visible)
WARNING : Error detecting shell
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtweak/tweaks/tweak_group_shell_extensions.py", line 275, in __init__
raise Exception("Shell not running or DBus service not available")
Exception: Shell not running or DBus service not available

I'm using ubuntu 16.04 LTS. What can I do in order to fix this issue?

  • What does this have to do with Firefox? – muru Jul 27 '17 at 0:57
  • My final goal is to install gnome extension, but when I'm trying to open [extensions.gnome.org ](in firefox) no_gnome_shell appears. After that I tried to run gnome-tweak-tool... My guess: Can it (no_gnome_shell) be connected to gnome-tweak-tool failure? Thanks – Edy2017 Jul 27 '17 at 16:04
