The content of the status tab in geany:

enter image description here

(logs your activity). I would like to append that to a file automatically. Ideally the file would start empty and each new item on this tab would be appended to it. Preferably, the file's name should be a random string (so it doesn't overwrite an existing one).

Is there a way? What is the way?

  • All I could see when right-clicking in the Status tab area were options to copy all and clear all. I'm guessing you'll need to copy all and paste into an appropriately named text file and then clear all. Manually. You can create a time-stamped empty file using something like gedit /path/to/folder $(date +%Y%m%d%H%M).txt. – DK Bose Apr 9 '17 at 10:57

    Does geany -v > /path/to/folder/$(date +%Y%m%d%H%M).txt 2>&1 help? – DK Bose Apr 9 '17 at 13:02
  • @DKBose: yes: it's exactly what I want. Is there a way to have this always on the background automatically? – user2413 Apr 11 '17 at 16:59

I don't know but maybe you could make that into a script and start Geany via that script rather than the normal way. – DK Bose Apr 11 '17 at 17:07
