seems Ubuntu 16.04 LTS has already AMDGPU Open source version, I have R9 390 card, and I would like to run Ubuntu with AMDGPU open source driver, how can I switch to amdgpu?

OS: Ubuntu Studio 16.04.1 LTS (lowlatency kernel 4.4.0-62 or/and 59)

$ lspci | grep -E "VGA|3D"
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Hawaii PRO [Radeon R9 290] (rev 80)

$ DRI_PRIME=1 glxinfo | grep "OpenGL renderer"
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD HAWAII (DRM 2.43.0, LLVM 3.8.0)

You need to install it: support.amd.com/en-us/kb-articles/Pages/…. Good luck. – mikewhatever Feb 3 '17 at 8:11

That is AMDGPU-PRO, but I want to use AMDGPU open source version that installed in ubuntu, just want to activate it – daniel Feb 3 '17 at 8:23

Have you tried the drivers utility, aka ubuntu-drivers? – mikewhatever Feb 3 '17 at 10:29

seems you are talking about old fglrx for amd/ati, if so that is gone and replaced with amdgpu (and pro version)for gcn 1.x upper cards. – daniel Feb 3 '17 at 13:46

Nope, wasn't talking about fglrx at all. The drivers utility can offer various drivers, including amdgpu. You should check if it's available. – mikewhatever Feb 3 '17 at 14:12
