I like Ubuntu 16.04,but would like something lighter to run on my HP dual core laptop.Ubuntu 16.04 runs flawlessly on it,but a little slow.I dont really want it to look like windows. Also,I like the search feature for finding programs, and dont miss the windows menu feature.

  • In the linked answer, there are many to choose from with descriptions. – Terrance Jan 10 '17 at 3:21
  • Running slow is unlikely related to "light", more likely then not it is due to hardware problems. Could be anything from poor graphics driver to poor wireless driver. You can try alternate and see what happens. – Panther Jan 10 '17 at 5:11
  • If you want a more responsive system, and if you cannot find a more efficient graphics driver and you don't want to buy a new graphics card, you can to try the lighter flavours of Ubuntu. They will not look like standard Ubuntu with Unity but they might be much more responsive, for example the ultra light Lubuntu and the medium light Xubuntu and Ubuntu MATE. It is also possible to modify the look and feel of these flavours of Ubuntu. Try them live without installing. In the end you choose the desktop environment, that you like best. – sudodus Jan 10 '17 at 5:24
  • Thanks for all of the answers.I have tried Kubunti, lubuntu, mint, peppermint, but i still prefer Ubuntu.I forgot to mention that it is slow compared to my quad core desktop,so i think i am just expecting too much out of the old laptop.I turned off some stuff, like desktop effects, etc. That helped a little. Thanks – Bob Jan 10 '17 at 6:06
