I'm kind of at shooting an arrow into the darkness right now because I'm not sure really what happened to my server. It went through a distribution upgrade a little while back and everything seemed fine, but now after some reboot it appears that my python installation got screwed up and I'm not sure how to recover. This has caused problems with update/upgrade as well as running software like transmission (I'm assuming this is related anyways. I'm just going to post whatever I can here and hopefully it'll be enough to get some help from you all. Thanks again in advance!

I'm happy to post whatever other pertinent info you guys would find helpful. Also, here are the errors I get when trying to start transmission:

wyth@server:~$ sudo service transmission-daemon start
Job for transmission-daemon.service failed because a fatal signal was delivered to the control process. See "systemctl status transmission-daemon.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.

Edit: Another symptom is that it appears disconnected as the network drive. However, I can still ssh into it and see my files and etc.

Can you please provide the details of your /etc/apt/sources.list, and any files in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ – ThatGuy Nov 20 '16 at 7:32

I updated my question with that info for you @ThatGuy, thanks for taking the time to look it over. – Jonathan Wendt Nov 20 '16 at 13:55

@ Jonathan You can try 'sudo apt autoremove', 'sudo apt-get -f install' – Rahul Nov 20 '16 at 14:03

@Rahul it still fails with the unmet dependencies when I run that command. – Jonathan Wendt Nov 20 '16 at 14:06

Ok, I've noticed you have duplicate and old sources. mc3man-trusty-media-trusty.list.distUpgrade is not required. plexmediaserver.list.* are not required. Keep mc3man-trusty-media-trusty.list and plexmediaserver.list. then try doing a sudo apt-get update – ThatGuy Nov 20 '16 at 20:11
