Hi i'm trying to setup a printer to be shared in my local network. I have two linux box with ubuntu 16.04 and KDE. I can print from the "server printing" machine to the printer with no problems. I used webcups to set up the printer to be used in the local network. I can access the printer in the "server printing" machine thru cups at the address "". I can print a test page form a client machine using this address with no problem. Then I set up a printer using ethier using cups or the Printer manage utility from the KDE. Using the same address and port, I send a Test page and I get the following error: "SpliX Cannot open job". The contents of the error log in the printing server machine is:

I can't find any solutions googling the internet. It looks like my client machine uses a different ptrotocol to print than the printer server and the server can't figure it out. I don know what else to do so any help is appreciated.

  • Hi everybody, I finally found the solution. – eddie1234 Nov 17 '16 at 10:36
  • Hi everybody, I finally found the solution. When setting the printer address in webcups I used hppt: This worked fine in a web browser. When I setup the printer in the printer panel I used the same address. But what I needed to used was :"ipp" instead of "hppt" in the printer address. I hope this helps anybody with a similar problem. Now I need to close this question If anybody helps met with this. I'm a new user and I don't know how to do it.Thanks a lot. – eddie1234 Nov 17 '16 at 10:45
