I updated my operating system to 16.04 and since then it has started freezing a lot of the time. This most commonly happens when I am installing new applications. Does anyone know what could be causing this problem and how I can fix it?

  • How exactly are you installing these applications? Can you provide one or more examples that resulted in a freeze and one or more that didn't? – David Foerster Nov 15 '16 at 16:13
  • sudo apt-get install software-center , after I updated my ubuntu, it disappear and I have to install it again. If I installed it by the mentioned command, my computer freezes. – JIri Nov 15 '16 at 16:34
  • I'd recommend that you reload the software information first, to detect if you have any broken packages before installing new software. To fix broken packages use sudo apt-get install - f – Muaad ElSharif Nov 15 '16 at 17:07
  • Does the system become 1) (very) sluggish or 2) does it stall completely for longer periods or 3) does it freeze completely and you have to log out or reboot to regain control? The next time you install an application please capture the apt-get output and, if it stalls, add it to your question so we might spot irregularities. If possible, line out where the sluggishness/stalling/freeze occurred. – David Foerster Nov 15 '16 at 17:46
