I tried everything like removing the 24 kernel manually but no matter what I do this is my output of sudo apt-get upgrade:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  linux-image-4.4.0-24-generic linux-image-extra-4.4.0-24-generic
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 2 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
**7 not fully installed or removed.**
After this operation, 217 MB disk space will be freed.

There are two entries on line 38 of your /etc/default/grub.cfg that end up being merged into one variable:

GRUB_FONT="/boot/grub/unicode.pf2"GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=None

You need to add a line break after the 2nd quotation mark (") before GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX, or, since the resulting entry would be an exact duplicate of line 39, you can just delete that part.

  • Thanks.... you are right... that's what was wrong but was answered already but that's okay... btw: that is the automatic update that did that error... I did not edit that file manually... but everything works good again, and that's the main thing Jul 25, 2016 at 11:50
  • That's a bug then. You can report it if you want but I'm not sure that it's going to be possible to reconstruct which update lead to that change. Jul 25, 2016 at 12:20

It says "7 not fully installed or removed". sudo apt -f install should do the trick.

  • that don't work either... here's what I get....same results... Jul 19, 2016 at 1:19

Try these commands i hope they might helpful

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get autoclean

sudo apt-get clean

sudo apt-get autoremove

//Just in case you know the package

sudo dpkg --remove -force --force-remove-reinstreq package name

-1 None of these will help if there are broken or half-installed packages and the last one is dangerous if performed on important packages. Jul 18, 2016 at 6:57
  • Tried all those commands.... same thing happens.... Jul 18, 2016 at 19:44
