I am not a very advanced user of Ubuntu. So the question may sound a bit naive.

I recently got a new laptop: HP Probook G3 440. I have tried installing many previous versions of Ubuntu. They run into a lot of driver issues. So I ended up downloading Ubuntu 16.04 since this is the only version that deals with the driver issues properly.

But I am facing difficulty installing important applications like "chromium browser" and "synaptic". Whenever I give the installation command/ "sudo apt-get update" in the terminal, it ends up saying "Hash Sum Mismatch" for many packages. I tried this solution. But it doesn't work. Terminal still returns the same message.

This is what I get when I run sudo apt-get update.

Just wait, and try running apt-get update regularly. It will go away eventually. If you urgently need to install some package, you can try to install it with apt-get install anyway, or manually download and install the DEB. – fkraiem May 11 '16 at 11:22

It has happened to me, and I have emailed the administrator of the mirror in question. He actually replied, confirming that at that exact time there was a complete reload of the mirror repositories. So yes, it will go away. – Jos May 11 '16 at 11:29

@fkraiem I cannot apt-get install. "Package 'synaptic' has no installation candidate" is what the terminal returns. But maybe .deb files are an option. Jos, What you are talking about seems like a temporary problem with the mirror. I hope it's the same with me. I will post here if I don't get a solution in a week or so I guess. I hope that's enough time for fixing this issue. – Labib666 May 11 '16 at 12:32

@fkraiem unfortunately I had this issue for more than a week in Ubuntu 16.04 (basically, the whole time I had it). Maybe this has something to do with my laptop/internet connection/something else? – Labib666 May 11 '16 at 12:42

@fkraiem Ah, I installed Kubuntu later on, here is what I got during "sudo apt-get update" update – Labib666 May 11 '16 at 16:57
