Specifications of my laptop: ASUS K53U, radeon HD 6250M graphics card, Ubuntu 12.04

I know that the propretiary driver (fglrx) is not installed because it really slowed down my computer.

So now I don't know what drivers do I use and are they optimal for my laptop

In system info under Graphics it says that the driver is Gallium 0.4 on AMD PALM

So am i using xserver-xorg-video-ati or something else?

If fglrx is not installed, you are most liekly using the Xorg driver. You can verify this with

modinfo radeon | grep author

If it returns

Gareth Hughes, Keith Whitwell, others.

you are using the Xorg opensource driver.

You have to try which works better, the Xorg driver or fglrx. Simply use the one you experience to work better. If fglrx really slows your computer down, then stick to the open source driver.

  • Yes, i am using the Xorg driver but why does it say AMD PALM instead of radeon – Intelpeas Jan 24 '16 at 12:57

  • No, I have AMD radeon as I said at the beginning of my question. – Intelpeas Jan 24 '16 at 13:12
  • If you have 1 GB of RAM, get another DE. Now. – Eduardo Cola Jan 24 '16 at 13:32
