I have an Ubuntu 14.04 Server with Postfix 2.11.0 and 2.2.9

Since the last weekend my mailserver can only send emails but not receive them. Any help is much appreciated! :-)

The Error in mail.log file say:

Quite honestly - error states quite clearly, where is the problem. In your virtual mailbox table.

It says that user hasn't been found there, hence incoming mail hasn't been accepted.

I see you're using ldap for virtual users/mailboxes and aliases records - so first of all check if you can connect to your ldap server and, if so - whether your ldap records are in proper order.

  • Thanks Jacek for your quick response. I checked all users that have mail and from my view anything seems fine. I created a new user in gosa (user admin panel) to see if the issue is fixed for new users. But why is ldap the issue if sending messages works from all users?

  • For sending you don't check mailboxes, you check them for receiving mails to find where exactly to drop the incoming message.

  • If users are still there - make sure postfix is able to successfully connect to ldap then, with details from your ldap_virtual_recipients.cf config.
