I tried to upgrade my MAAS installation like it was described in here: Upgrading MAAS from 1.5.4 to 1.7.0 or latest on ubuntu 14.04 but there is an error in one of the python scripts used during the update. I get the following output:

After that, the installation just waits there and I have to forcefully stop apt-get. Calling apt-get upgrade repeats this. I am also unable to remove the maas-region-controller package because doing so results in

E: dpkg was interrupted, you must manually run 'sudo dpkg --configure -a' to correct the problem.

which again triggers the installation with the error.

Is there a way to repair this installation?

After some try and error, I found the only solution to be to uninstall all maas related packages dpkg -r and re-install maas from scratch.
