I'm trying to format my hard drive using a live disc, I need to change the partition table to GPT because my Windows install CD didn't work.

The full error goes like this:

Error Formatting disk

Error synchronizing after initial wipe: timed out waiting for object
(Udisks-error-quark, 0)

You need to erase everything from the disk to be able to create a GPT partition. Be sure to accept every delete and run every pending operations, even delete unused space - until there are only 1 big unbroken unclaimed chunk of disk, just like a brand new virgin disk. If you still cannot choose GPT as disklayout, you have to reboot, before trying again.

Yes now you have to choose a Guided partition Table, and inside this table create your partritions! Best of luck

  • Erased everything. Now my PC says error no such partition – EricJohnson Jun 7 '15 at 13:26
  • Note that MBR/GPT is like an index in a book. First deelete all (including the old style index), then create a new style (GPT) index. After that you can create entries and format those. – Hennes Jun 7 '15 at 13:46
