Kubuntu 15.04 shows a notification (and a taskbar icon) on each boot, after the log in, offering me to install extra packages, specifically flash, and I really don't want to install it. I've pressed "cancel" many times, but in the next boot the notification will pop-up again.

What can I do to make the notification stop?

you can remove update-manager package. your apt-get and synaptic will still work without any problems. Have you tried it ? – AliReza Mosajjal Aug 5 '15 at 8:36

I found an answer to this on the Kubuntu forum.

In KDE you can turn off "Restricted codec availability" under

'System Settings' -> Notifications -> 'Other Notifications'.

It works for me (Kubuntu 15.04 with kubuntu-ppa backports).

It worked for me too, thanks! – Stéphane Tréboux Oct 13 '16 at 21:30

You can fix it by running in terminal

sudo apt-get purge flashplugin-installer

If the package is not installed, the easiest way is to re-install it and then purge.

sudo apt-get install --reinstall flashplugin-installer
sudo apt-get purge flashplugin-installer

This is not the answer. @Zherk explicitly writes and I really don't want to install it. I also don't want adobe flash. I use Chromium with pepperflash plugin, and I keep firefox as a backup. So I don't care about installing flash because firefox wants it. – Francesco Montesano Jul 31 '15 at 14:05

@FrancescoMontesano OK. Updated. This message is coming from flashplugin either way. Probably restricted-extras have been installed. – Pilot6 Jul 31 '15 at 14:07

This doesn't solve the issue. dpkg -l flashplugin-installer tells that the status is un, so the purge command doesn't work: Package 'flashplugin-installer' is not installed, so not removed – Francesco Montesano Jul 31 '15 at 15:40

Then I need a screenshot of the error message that you get. I suggest asking a separate question. Your problem may be not related to what has been asked here. – Pilot6 Jul 31 '15 at 15:41

some minute after log in a notification and an icon in the system tray appears. Clicking on the notification shows the upper window and on the icon the lower one of the screenshot – Francesco Montesano Jul 31 '15 at 15:53
