My laptop connects to 46" Sony Bravia LED TV using HDMI cable in Windows without any problem. However, it just doesn't work with Ubuntu 12.04. It always says No Signal.

Problem somewhat persists after upgrading to 13.04. Bravia detects my laptop as a connection now but I am unable to display anything.

What drivers/applications should I install to connect via HDMI?

  • What do you see, when you open System settings > Displays ? Is the Bravia there at all? Do you know which graphics adapter your laptop has, or if you don't know, could you include the output of sudo lspci -nn from a terminal? – taneli Jan 9 '13 at 7:37
  • Voting to close because my Sony TV has zero problems with Linux / Ubuntu. Also question is about Ubuntu 12.04 which makes it is almost impossible for most people to post new answers. – WinEunuuchs2Unix Jul 19 at 14:59

It should work as it is.

  1. Plug your HDMI Cable.
  2. Go to System settings --> Displays --> If detected, External display will be available there and you get the option to Mirror or have multiple displays.
  • I had tried it. Did not work. Display was not detected. – VedVals Jan 12 '13 at 15:40
