I have an old laptop, which running Ubuntu Server 22.04 LTS to provide some server-based functionalities (like NAS, DLNA, Torrent etc...).

Currently it use SMB (Samba) protocol for NAS file sharing. I was wondering if there is any better, faster, or more stable protocol for this, since I don't have any Windows computers, so windows compatibility is irrelevant, all my PCs run Linux.

PCs OS: Kubuntu 22.04 LTS

Server OS: Ubuntu Server 22.04 LTS

I see this question as off-topic due to your seeking an opinion on which protocol is best (askubuntu.com/help/dont-ask where best is like favorite; these questions being better suited for Forums and not a Q&A site), but I'd only use SaMBa where windows or older media player boxes are best with it, and use NFS for everything that matters myself.

  • I agree with @guiverc NFS all the way.
