I've installed Kubuntu and I can't boot it normally, just by going this route: Andvanced options for Ubuntu > [linux kernel] (recovery mode) > boot > resume. Then it works like it should. I've seen many post on the Internet about this problem, but I've haven't seen any solution, just that probably it is graphics driver problem. Here is some info:

I have AMD Ryzen 7 4700U

EDIT: This is new install, no update. I've also installed Manjaro and it works fine and uses amdgpu driver. This Ubuntu doesn't say anything about driver.

I think I had a similar problem when i moved a harddrive from my Intel laptop to a AMD one. I think the solution was switching from Wayland to the X system.

Just make sure you are using X, by clicking on the icon next to the username login box

  • I'm running X, also I would like to note that this is fresh install, no update of previous.

  • I would suggest installing again. you might have made a wrong selection during the installation process. Commented Sep 15, 2020 at 12:38
  • I've tried checking third-party software and no change.
