I just upgraded my laptop from Ubuntu 19 to 20.04, and after first boot my apps have all disappeared from the drawer. Furthermore I can't access all apps by searching. The software center loads, but when I click on install, I get a blank screen.

I entered safe mode to address the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling gnome-software, cleaned the cache and updated all software, restarted the system .and yet the problem persists.

In the software center under any category selected, I can see any installed software I have and I can launch applications from there and that's how I can only access any program I have installed.

The weird part is using the terminal shortcut (Ctrl+Alt+T), I can access terminal but the font is messed up really bad like alien block fonts. nothing makes sense, making that route useless.

  • I had the same empty App drawer, but the apps returned after I disabled a Gnome extension. Please disable your extensions and see if that makes a difference. You can turn them back on later. – Jos May 8 at 11:34
  • Uninstalled, restarted, update & yep, drawer working fine but font in terminal still alien – if_else May 8 at 11:50
  • In the terminal app, see the font settings in your Profile. Perhaps use a different font? – Jos May 8 at 12:31
  • I have tried various... No resolve! – if_else May 8 at 12:33
