Neither lightdm, nor gdm3, not in any combination (nouveau/nvidia-340) is providing a working suspend on my Macbook pro (5,3) from 2009. The best that I can get is NVidia with gdm, where at least I don't get a blank black screen, but a frozen lock screen.

It looks like Ubuntu doesn't like that graphics card? Anyone made better experiences, or even found a solution? NVidia is a nvidia geforce 9400m.

Note: To be able to login with gdm3, I added in /etc/gdm3/custom.conf the line WaylandEnable=false. To make a login possible with nouveau, I added the nomodeset to the the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT. Besides that, things should be all default.

Note2: I would prefer gdm3, as it seems integrated with Ubuntu/Gnome, and the screen lock already works. lightdm and Xubuntu lock my screen only half of the times.
