I'm trying to get my Asus Zenscreen MB16AC external usb monitor to work with my laptop.

The laptop I'm using is Lenova G50-80 specs and has Ubuntu 18.04 LTS installed on it.

I've downloaded the driver from DisplayLink, shown here: driver

I installed according to these instructions: how to install

I verified the displayLink device is seen:

Bus 002 Device 014: ID 17e9:4374 DisplayLink

The release notes states that 18.04 is supported:

D. Supported O/S variants

This release has been prepared to be compatible with Ubuntu 19.04, 18.04 and 16.04. Other variants and editions may be compatible if they meet minimum O/S requirements, but are not supported by DisplayLink.

The Software contains binaries which work on Intel x86 platform (32 bit and 64 bit). Supported Linux Kernel version range is from 4.2 to 5.2. Minimum supported Xorg version is 1.16.

I've found my Xorg versions appear to be supported, but not the kernel:

sudo Xorg -version

X.Org X Server 1.20.5
X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0
Build Operating System: Linux 4.4.0-170-generic x86_64 Ubuntu

Build Date: 18 December 2019 08:15:29AM
xorg-server-hwe-18.04 2:1.20.5+git20191008-0ubuntu1~18.04.1 (For technical support please see http://www.ubuntu.com/support)
Current version of pixman: 0.34.0
    Before reporting problems, check http://wiki.x.org
to make sure that you have the latest version.

What is recommended to get the monitor to work?

FYI: I tried this situation on Ubuntu 19.10 and it works. So my hardware setup is supported by DisplayLink but I want to do this with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS for support.
