I read and tried many posts on the web but still doesn't work.

Environment: computer with lubuntu 18.04, boot from internal SSD and 3 USB drives connected.

At boot, I need Truecrypt to start and mount the favorites or mount the connected devices.

I know a little about ubuntu but still consider myself a beginner. Help would be appreciated.

Edit:

When I execute Truecrypt through the menu, it works OK and works well when I "Mount Favorite Volumes".

Using crontab -e I added the following line: @reboot /usr/bin/truecrypt --auto-mount=favorites

Using visudo I added the following line: luc ALL=NOPASSWD: /usr/bin/truecrypt

Truecrypt runs under root [using sudo /usr/bin/truecrypt command in terminal mode] and under my user (luc).

Second edit

I commented out the @reboot from crontab. I went to Select "Preferences" > "Default applications for LXSession" and found TrueCrypt was selected in the autostart section.

After reboot, ps aux|grep truecrypt showed two truecrypt tasks. Nevertheless, I get no request to enter password. Maybe the issue is more one of getting to enter the password to my favorites being mounted.

  • "Truecrypt" isn't a Ubuntu package. But see duckduckgo.com/… – waltinator Dec 21 '19 at 22:50
  • What command do you use to start truecrypt? Where is truecrypt installed? Can root run it? If you can stand waiting until rc.local runs, you could put it there, but see linuxbabe.com/linux-server/… . If you want to start truecrypt earlier, start with man systemd.mount. – waltinator Dec 21 '19 at 23:08

a couple of years ago TC recommended not to use it. Veracrypt is an alternative. – pierrely Dec 22 '19 at 10:39
  • Thank you waltinator. I don't have access to the PC for a week. I'll confirm and get back with the information. – LAL Dec 25 '19 at 17:48
  • Thank you pierrely for raising this issue. In fact, I did change to VC on Windows and came back to TC after a while. From my readings, TC is just as trustworthy than VC, set aside some minor issues (minor in my environment and for my needs). I selected TC because of mount time over VC, that is making a difference in my operations. And changing to VC in the future would be easy if I need to. – LAL Dec 25 '19 at 17:56
