I get the following from sudo fdisk -l

Device Start End Sectors Size Type
/dev/sda1 2048 1050623 1048576 512M EFI System
/dev/sda2 1050624 1000214527 999163904 476.4G Linux filesystem

but my ADATA SU800 should have 512 GB total.

My last Ubuntu install got corrupted or something and now I can't seem to delete it.

    512 GB = 476 GiB, see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibibyte – mook765 Oct 31 '19 at 17:10

Unfortunately you are looking at two different systems for size. Hard drive makers use GB and most computers use GiB. One uses 1000 and the other uses 1024. It just makes sizes look better in ads. – crip659 Oct 31 '19 at 18:18
