Context

When installing ROS2 Dashing with the following installation guide, I asked apt to install the following package:

sudo apt install ros-dashing-rmw-connext-cpp

(This is part of the step "Install additional RMW implementations¶" in the guide).

Problem

Unfortunately for me, my computer lost power after the following stage of the APT install output:

After this operation, 1,024 kB of additional disk space will be used.

Now, I cannot complete the installation of ros-dashing-rmw-connext-cpp, nor can I remove it with apt. Each and every time, I run into the following array of errors:

What have I tried

  • Asking dpkg to fix the installation with dpkg --configure -a
  • Trying to get apt to do it: sudo apt remove ros-$CHOOSE_ROS_DISTRO-rmw-connext-cpp
  • Asking apt to fix any broken installation sudo apt --fix-broken install
  • Finally, editing sudo nano /var/lib/dpkg/status and removing anything mentioning ros-dashing-rmw-connext-shared-cpp, and other broken packages.

I've visited the following similar questions so far:

  • This SO question: Tried the given solution and it did not work for me.
  • This SO question: The answer was too specific to the given problem, and didn't concern dpkg

    • This SO question: I actually applied all of the suggestions seen here, but cannot resolve my issue.
  • Can I get any explanation as to why this was downvoted? I tried a bunch of solutions before asking, and I made sure to make my question as clear as I could when writing it up. I know there are a lot of dpkg questions, but honestly sometimes they're just very situation specific and I can't do much with the accepted answers :( – Micrified Oct 17 at 10:12
