I am taking a course in Open Source Programming this semester and have been asked to download any Linux distro, so I chose Ubuntu. I have set up my java environment and now I need to install Eclipse IDE.

I have followed the answers to similar questions via here and still haven't been able to get the job done.

sudo apt-get install eclipse-cdt
sudo snap install -classic eclipse

these are similar commands I have tried on my newly installed Ubuntu system.

As it stands, your post has little to know information. What is going wrong when you try to install eclipse? How have you tried to install eclipse? What are all the commands, and all the output of said commands? – j-money Oct 4 '19 at 15:51

The snap install command should be sudo snap install --classic eclipse with two - before classic otherwise you will get error: unknown flag c'` – Raffa Oct 4 '19 at 15:53
  • An alternative is to download Eclipse IDE.tar.gz for Linux from eclipse.org. Uncompress it, then run the eclipse binary ? – el-teedee Oct 4 '19 at 18:35
