I am trying to set up a vpn connection to access my router for my linux computer. On the server side everything should be set fine. Now I am trying to connect with my client but I can't really get it to work. It needs to be an IPsec connection, otherwise it won't work. This is what I have:

Gateway: MyStaticIpAddress

IPsec Settings
Gateway Id: ???????

Phase1 Algorithm: Must be AES256 and SHA2 256 (what would be the correct format???)
Phase1 Algorithm: Must be AES256 and SHA2 256 (what would be the correct format???)

And finally ubuntu asks me to verify myself when I hit connect. Would that be my admin password or would that be my preshared key??

Maybe it helps also to know that on a Mac these configs work:

serveraddress: mystaticip
remote ID: digibox
local ID: peerid

and for authentication only the preshared key
Pre-shared key: mypresharedkey

Maybe that's not even the way to go? Maybe I need strongswan or sth?! help.....

Relatively new to linux so if someone could lend a helping hand it would be fantastic! Thanks in advance!

  • no one an idea? Should I maybe use a different client? – Micromegas Sep 13 at 6:50
