enter image description hereWhen I log in, the screen goes blank but returns to the login window. I have tried accessing the console but I get a couple of errors on it being a readonly file system.

How can I solve this?

  • If $HOME is on a readonly filesystem that would likely cause a GUI login loop by itself (the display manager needs to be able to write $HOME/.Xauthority) – steeldriver Jun 19 at 22:48

You should fsck (file system check), or read the logs to see what it was mounted read-only (it usually means an error). Myself I usually do this from a live system (Xubuntu install media) and if errors were found & fixed - all will be well when you reboot to your real system. – guiverc Jun 19 at 23:01
