I am using Ubuntu Ubuntu 18.04 connected with two screen. Current configuration is as below:

I want to increase screen resolution of VGA-0.

Is it possible? If Yes, How can I do it? Please suggest.

The maximum resolution of the Acer V196HQL 1366 x 768 @ 60 Hz. It may not sound like a lot but it's only a $99 monitor.

I'll walk you through my system to setup that resolution and you can substitute my monitor name for your own below:

$ xrandr --current

The first step is to get the signals using the cvt command:

$ cvt 1366 768

# 1368x768 59.88 Hz (CVT) hsync: 47.79 kHz; pclk: 85.25 MHz
Modeline "1368x768_60.00"   85.25  1368 1440 1576 1784  768 771 781 798 -hsync +vsync

The last line you will mostly copy and paste into the next command:

$ xrandr --newmode "1368x768_60.00"   85.25  1368 1440 1576 1784  768 771 781 798 -hsync +vsync
  • On my machine it prefers 1368x768 but copy and paste what your machine shows

Now we need to add the new mode to your monitor:

$ xrandr --addmode eDP-1-1 1368x768_60.00
  • Remember your machine uses VGA-0 instead of my eDP-1-1

Last step is to activate the new VGA-0:

$ xrandr --output eDP-1-1 --mode 1368x768_60.00

VOILA!
