After the update of my 16.04LTS machine to 18.04 LTS the ethernet icon shows a "?" see picture below

a ping to google.com responds

PING google.com(ams17s08-in-x0e.1e100.net (2a00:1450:400e:80e::200e)) 56 data bytes 64 bytes from ams17s08-in-x0e.1e100.net (2a00:1450:400e:80e::200e): icmp_seq=1 ttl=56 time=14.6 ms

which means I do have a connection

nmcli general status responds with STATE CONNECTIVITY WIFI-HW WIFI WWAN-HW WWAN
connected unknown enabled enabled enabled enabled

do I have malware on my PC that intercepts my network connection ?

The network management and settings don't allow me to make settigns or make modifications ?

  • Not malware but this and the USB audio not working means that you had problems with the upgrade. Perhaps better a clean install? Do you backups first, of course. – GabrielaGarcia May 13 at 17:26
