This question already has an answer here:
I am using Ubuntu 19.04, downloaded and installed yesterday. You know how in Windows we can drag and drop files from the file manager onto the desktop, and back and forth? It's a super basic function... that Ubuntu seems to lack.
I did research beforehand, but these solutions don't work for me:
disabling the experimental new view in Nautilus preferences (the option doesn't exist in Ubuntu 19) source: Drag and drop not working inside Nautilus on Ubuntu 17.10
running Nautilus as root (try it already) source: http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2018/02/open-as-admin-nautilus-file-browser/
More than drag and drop, I want to right-click on the desktop and create shortcut or text files and stuff. But nope, Ubuntu does not let me. I'm feeling frustrated with Ubuntu. Is Ubuntu 19 just not the right distro for me? Maybe Linux Mint... or just go back to using Windows. >.>"
