I had previously installed Ubuntu to my computer but had at one time decided to remove it from the system by removing the Ubuntu partitions from the drive following procedures detailed by others. I would now like to reinstall it but every time I try to boot from a live USB in UEFI mode, I get a Grub error with the text "Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported." It will not let me get into the live USB menu to install from the USB drive. How can I fix this error? Thank you.

  • Thank you, but unfortunately that did not work. I can live boot using a MBR partitioned USB, just not a GPT partitioned one.

  • you said that Ubuntu partitions were already removed from the drive. Now, Are you trying to reinstall Ubuntu using bootable USB stick with EFI boot loader? Is it Ubuntu 18.04? Did you reach BIOS setup screen and set up USB stick top priority? After rebooting did you see Ubuntu installation screen? Please clarify.

  • Yes, the drive was created with the EFI boot loader. I am trying to install 18.04. I have set up BIOS to boot to the USB first, which it does. After that, I never get to the installation screen. Once the USB boots I get the message mentioned above.

  • How many bootloaders do you observe in your BIOS setup screen? Can you list them? Do you attempt dual-boot? Do you have SSD and HDD? Are you installing Ubuntu 18.04 on separate disk or on the same disk alongside with Windows-10? Is it a laptop? Please clarify.
