I tried installing Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS on my External HDD using the instructions outlined here:

https://www.zachpfeffer.com/single-post/Install-Ubuntu-on-an-External-Hard-Drive

Installation was successful but when I clicked on restart and unplugged the USB installer (leaving my External HDD with Ubuntu installed), it says No Bootable Device.

I tried plugging in my External HDD to another laptop, pressed F12, but still my External HDD is not listed among the boot options.

What could be wrong in the procedure?

seems the guide is quite old and targeted to BIOS/ MBR partitioning. – Mogli Mar 29 at 9:58
