I want to install CUDA on Ubuntu 18.04 having nvidia-340 driver (Geforce 820 graphics card). I tried following but didn't have any success.

  1. I tried to install CUDA 6.5 which is supported by the nvidia-340 driver but it is not compatible with Ubuntu 18.04
  2. I tried to install CUDA 9 which is supported on Ubuntu 18.04 but not compatible with the nvidia-340 driver

Difficult to solve the inter dependency.

and what about moving to ubuntu 18.10 or waiting untill pril for ubuntu 19.04? I'm pretty sure on ubuntu 18.10 CUDA 9 is supported. – tatsu Mar 26 at 12:32
  • Difficult to switch over now. Its fine if older version is also possible to install by some trick. – user938171 Mar 27 at 12:14
  • this guy said he managed to fix it by uninstalling and reinstalling graphics drivers : askubuntu.com/a/1048438/307184 also why is it not 418 you're using? why 340? have you run this : sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa && sudo apt update ? – tatsu Mar 27 at 12:43
