These are the steps I take but I still can not connect from my local network with ssh root@ip.

  1. sudo passwd adds password to root user
  2. Install Openssh
  3. sudo vim /etc/ssh/sshd_config:

    • PermitRootLogin yes
    • PasswordAuthentication yes
  4. sudo service ssh restart

The problem still can not access ssh root@ip on my own machine.

I wonder why anyone would have the need to allow root login. Can you login with normal user? – RoVo Jan 18 at 15:03
  • 1. Can you log in as root locally (from the server's console)? 2. What IP address are you using? xxx.xxx.x.x or a verbose address like bionic.local? Only bionic might not work. – sudodus Jan 18 at 15:22
