I have an encrypted volume and encrypted home directory on Ubuntu 16.04. About a week ago I noticed I could not see any files in my home directory. Oddly enough I can however access files I knew existed in my home directory without a problem. All sub-directories (and files within them) are fine -- I can see the files within the sub-directories and access them fine. I just can't SEE the files and sub-directories in my home directory itself.

I get the following error in syslog whenever I try to do something (like an 'ls') in the home directory:

[ 2131.145196] Could not find key with description: [662e6f84d6f844d6]
[ 2131.145198] process_request_key_err: No key
[ 2131.145200] ecryptfs_parse_tag_70_packet: Error attempting to find auth tok for fnek sig [662e6f84d6f844d6]; rc = [-2]

but oddly enough I can access the files just fine. I just can't see them.

xxxx@xxxx-desktop:~$ ls -ltra
total 32
drwxr-xr-x 4 root root 4096 Jul 24 09:26 ..
-rw-rw-r-- 1 xxxx xxxx 476 Nov 5 15:38 .aspell.en.prepl
drwx------ 49 xxxx xxxx 16384 Dec 7 07:05 .
xxxx@xxxx-desktop:~$ cat ./test.txt

As you can see the ls shows no files except a hidden .aspell file but I can access test.txt file without any issue.

There appears to be two other signatures in the .ecryptfs/Private.sig file but 662e6f84d6f844d6 is not one of them.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
