Photorec is exactly that searching you for. One thing should be mentioned, however, its console application so you will have to be ready for it. You can install it by using sudo apt install testdisk and start by typing sudo photorec in terminal emulator.

There is some step-by-step guides which may help you https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec_Step_By_Step ,

https://recoverit.wondershare.com/photo-recovery/how-to-use-photorec.html (this one recommends another software as ad, but i'd rather stick with Photorec)

  • PhotoRec technically runs in a terminal, but it does have menus and ascii "graphics", and can be run with little more than arrows and enter. A link to it's how-to pages might help – Xen2050 Nov 7 '18 at 8:53

For Ubuntu Data Recovery:

You can check this tutorial: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/DataRecovery I think this post has clear enough steps for you to check how to recover data from CF card.

For Other OS data recovery:

If you are asking for data recovery from other platforms, you may check this post: https://www.bitwar.net/course/delete/1078.html

  • Putting the answer here, and citing the Ubuntu tutorial as a source, would be great in case the link is lost or changes in the future (I didn't downvote, but after including the actual answer this may warrant an upvote) – Xen2050 Nov 7 '18 at 8:50
