I am running mininet. I have entered sudo apt-get install xinit ubuntu-desktop.

When it finishes I enter startx. This gives me a "timeout in locking authority file" message.

I tried entering sudo startx, but when I do it then asks me to enter the password for root. Help!

When you use sudo to get temporary root permissions, you use your own password, not the root password. – rlee827 Oct 21 '18 at 3:14

Don't run start as root. Need to run as a user. – pauljohn32 Oct 21 '18 at 4:58
