So I installed gnome-session, but I can't select it, since the Gear Icon in the Login screen of Ubuntu 18.10 is missing... Anyone knows a solution to this? Thanks!

https://www.gnome.org/getting-gnome/ "Ubuntu 18.10 includes GNOME 3.30 with minor alterations. If you install gnome-session, you can also choose to launch a pristine GNOME from the login screen."

  • Gnome session is by default installed, I guess. Gear icon appears when there are more than 1 desktop environment installed. – Kulfy Oct 21 '18 at 1:36

Not so. Installing gnome-session should give you the additional entry. You may not have performed a restart. The extra menu item will only appear after reboot. – vanadium Oct 21 '18 at 6:19
