I recently did a clean install of Ubuntu 18.04.1 server (because I use software RAID), followed by apt install ubuntu-desktop, followed by apt install cinnamon-desktop (because I like it).
uname -a : Linux pandora 4.15.0-36-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Mon Sep 24 16:19:09 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux.

After installation, I visited settings/screensaver and chose 'sonar' - it is an xscreensaver module, but I haven't installed xscreensaver. I want to use this module, with specific parameters (e.g.-root -delay 10000 -sweep-size 0.125 -no-times -no-wobble -fps -ping,, but there is no apparent place to enter such parameters.

If I install the xscreensaver program, I can invoke xscreensaver-demo and do what I want (have done so in my previous Ubuntu installation) - but I thought I give the 'native' xscreensaver a try.

/home/gps/.xscreensaver, since this is a 'native' xscreensaver (does not start with "# Written by xscreensaver-demo"...), does not contain the "programs" section which I could manually configure to do the job.

I tried modifying /usr/share/applications/screensavers/sonar.desktop and append the parameters to Exec (and TryExec) =/usr/lib/xscreensaver/sonar, but no luck either.
