I installed Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS dual boot on windows 10 Enterprise than I like it but I decide to uninstall it. Because with out doing any thing I got high CPU GPU usage and battery life than in windows 10. ( In win 10 I use Android Studio side by side with git xampp and I have no issue with CPU GPU Battery life and the Fan was quiet.) While in Ubuntu, Linux Mint (Cinnamon Mate) , Kubuntu , Ubuntu Mate just to find a good linux distro that used less or like win 10 CPU GPU Battery, the linux distros that I tested they are all the same, they are using more CPU GPU and Battery life than win10?

I did the test on my two laptops:

XPS 15: i7-7700 HQ Quad core. 2.80GHz 2.80 GHz RAM: 24 GB. SSD: 520 GB.

T470 i7-7500 2.7GHz 2.9 Ghz RAM 240 GB SSD: 500 GB

To be sure that if there is away to solve this problem so what I did is for each linux distros that I tested. I installed TLP is not work:

sudo apt-get remove laptop-mode-tools

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:linrunner/tlp sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install tlp tlp-rdw

sudo tlp start sudo apt-get install smartmontools ethtool for T470(ThinkPad): sudo apt-get install tp-smapi-dkms acpi-call-tools

  • Ubuntu uses more power then Windows. It is a known fact, not easy to solve at all. – mikewhatever Sep 11 '18 at 1:34
