There is no sound at all, for anything.

When I go into settings and into sound, there are no options for output or input and I can't adjust the sound level.

I have switched from Windows 10, the sound there was perfectly normal for everything, after using a USB to install Ubuntu, there has been no sound. I have reinstalled Ubuntu many times but it comes with the same problem.

The videos also used to run horribly, stuttering, playing a 3 minute video in 20 seconds. I used sudo killall pulseaudio to fix that, so they play fine, just no sound.

I believe that this is a driver problem, but I can't be sure, i'll give you a list of what I have tried:

Installing pulseaudio again. manually starting pulseaudio. going into BIOS to change the default sound card thing. Using PulseAudio Volume Control, it doesn't start, saying "Connection to PulseAudio failed", something about it probably being misconfigured.

I have tried many others, but I have lost count.

  • What does sudo lshw -C multimedia or sudo lshw -short tell you? You may have to sudo apt install lshw first. – waltinator Aug 18 at 2:20
  • I edited it to show the result. @waltinator – Shane.D Aug 18 at 2:25
