I am trying to upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04. But getting an error that, there is not enough space on disk '/'.

I have removed the old kernels with dpkg purge command, also have cleared cache using below commands.

sudo apt-get autoclean
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get autoremove

But still geting the same error. Please let me know how to free up more space on /

  • You can run cd / && sudo du -hs * | grep G to see which directories are using gbs of space. – bistoco Aug 6 '18 at 2:03
  • Ran below command to find the big packages that are occupying space. dpkg-query -W --showformat='${Installed-Size} ${Package}\n' | sort -nr | less Removed few packages, old kernel unix headers and it worked for me. Im on 18.04 now. :) – Vinayak Patil Aug 10 '18 at 0:43
