This is an Asus laptop with Intel-Nvidia hybrid graphics. Everything was working fine before the upgrade. I removed (and purged) the nvidia xserver packages. I reinstalled the intel, vesa, and nouveau xserver packages. I can only get access in rescue mode.

Here are the error lines from /var/log/Xorg.0.log:
